61 is 65, and 65 is 61
“For Upsilon Sigma Phi and Sigma Delta Phi, 61 is 65 and 65 is 61.”
What began as a symbolic statement became a living reality.
On January 31, 2026, Batch ’61 celebrated its 65th anniversary. Batch ’65 marked its 61st anniversary. Different numbers - yet one shared milestone. One celebration. One brotherhood and sisterhood.
At the heart of this unity was Brod Chitong Rivera ’61, who served as Ilustrious Fellow of Batch ’65 - a powerful reminder that the bonds of fraternity transcend batch lines and generations.
The fellowship turned out to be an overwhelming success.
Three days before the event, 442 had already registered. With numerous walk-ins, attendance easily surpassed the 450 mark. Fraternity brothers and sorority sisters came from near and far - spanning batches from 1952 all the way to the resident Brothers and Sisters of Batch 2025. Many travelled from different parts of the world.
From the moment guests began arriving at 4:30 PM, appetizers and drinks flowed generously. The warmth of joyful greetings and long-awaited hugs filled the air. Laughter echoed across the venue as stories were shared and memories rekindled.
Dinner was made even more memorable by a talented professional singer who serenaded the crowd. Food and drinks were abundant throughout the evening - a true reflection of the hosts’ generosity.
The dedication of the planning and organizing committees was evident in every detail. Led by Chitong Rivera of Batch ’61 and Tong Puno of Batch ’65, the collaboration between the two batches was seamless and heartfelt. The brods and sis of both batches contributed generously, making the celebration not only possible, but extraordinary.
One of the most touching moments of the night came through the lovingly crafted videos created by Brod Benny Fulgencio ’61. Painstakingly assembled, they brought back vivid memories of our youth. Many were moved to tears - especially during the tribute honoring our dearly departed batchmates.
Music from the 60s primarily, filled the hall, energizing the crowd and drawing everyone to the expansive dance floor - one of the many highlights of the beautifully arranged venue at the UP Bahay ng Alumni. With a little boost from a lot of spirited D.I.’s, dancing carried on joyfully and relentlessly.
Midnight came, the celebration showed no signs of waning.
That unforgettable evening was more than an anniversary.
It was a reaffirmation of brotherhood and sisterhood.
A celebration of shared history.
A testament to enduring bonds.
And as we parted ways, one prayer lingered in our hearts:
May we find another meaningful reason to gather like this again.
